Student Council Elections
With summer just around the corner, PC is already planning ahead for next year with Student Council elections. Annually, rising juniors and seniors are given the opportunity to run for the positions of President and Vice President of the Upper School. Current sophomore vice presidential candidates, Matt Urban and Tyler Shevin, and junior presidential candidates, Ben Frantz and Brittany Paris, have not only been campaigning with posters and stickers, but also presenting their speeches through video. Scattered throughout the campus, these eye-catching posters show off the candidates’ wit and playful humor. Tyler Shevin used word play with his name and wrote “Seven Shevin,” like the gas station across from school, Seven Eleven. Current president of the junior class, Brittany Paris, had a very humorous poster in front of the library, depicting many famous twitter accounts tweeting why she should be president. All four candidates have participated in Student Council during their high school careers, demonstrating that they are all extremely well-qualified and aware of the responsibilities bestowed upon representing PC.
During the election speeches this past Thursday, each candidate used their time wisely to convince the student body why they’d be the perfect match as vice president or president of StuCo. Aside from the jokes in the videos, they were very serious and direct as they proposed their ideas and plans for the future school year. Voting occurred the following day on Friday, with the ballots being supervised by the Judiciary staff.
In the end, Tyler Shevin and Brittany Paris were elected as Vice President and President, respectively, of Student Council for the upcoming school year. It will be very exciting to see the plans for Homecoming, Sadie, and Prom begin to unravel under the leadership of Paris and Shevin.
For those seeking to become active in Student Council, there is also an opportunity to run for a position in your class with elections taking place in April.
