Tyler Shevin: Denver
Super Bowl XLVIII should be an exciting, physical, and freezing showdown. The league’s best offense, led by soon-to-be five-time MVP Peyton Manning, faces the league’s best defense, led by outspoken, star cornerback Richard Sherman. My money is on the Broncos in a close, competitive game at the Meadowlands. 20-16.
Sam Dern: Seattle
The Seattle Seahawks are not short at all: not in size nor confidence as demonstrated by Richard Sherman. However, the hard-hitting, physical secondary, formally known as the Legion of Boom, will be the crucial asset in halting Peyton Manning and the explosive Bronco attack. Manning has had a year for the ages, and his accomplishments and perseverance returning from surgery have been truly commendable. Yet, offense sells tickets, while defense wins championships. And that will be precisely the case at MetLife Stadium in a few weeks when Pete Carroll and the Seahawks lift up the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Jonah Scrudders: Denver
I personally believe the Broncos will win this game, as not even the Seattle defense will be able to stop the stellar Peyton Manning. It would be nice to see Peyton get a second Super Bowl after a career of subpar postseason play. I’ll say Manning throws for three touchdowns in a 31-21 win over Seattle.
Will Becker: Seattle
This year’s Super Bowl puts the greatest offense in football against the most feared defense. Future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning will have his hands full with the Seattle defense. Leading arguably the greatest secondary I have ever seen, All-Pro cornerback and renowned trash talker Richard Sherman is having a season of comparable success to that of Manning. I think this will be a fantastic game between the two best teams in the NFL, but in the end, the old expression “defense wins championships” will prevail. My prediction is the Seahawks 31- Broncos 20.
Jake Wolpert: Seattle
When the game goes final, I believe the Seahawks will come out on top as Super Bowl champions for the 2013-14 NFL season. Seattle will win this game in large part due to their stifling pass defense, which ranks first in the NFL, allowing just over 170 passing yards per game. Led by Richard Sherman, the ‘Hawks secondary will look to keep Peyton Manning’s receivers in check and limit the Broncos’ prolific passing game. And I mean come on, who doesn’t want to see another Richard Sherman “interview”? Final score: Seahawks 31- Broncos 24.
Mark Rabin: Denver
Broncos—one word: Peyton Manning. He’s on a mission, and it doesn’t seem like anybody can really get in his way. The Seahawks defense won’t be a hindrance, despite the spectacular play from Richard Sherman and Manning’s previous struggles in cold weather. This year he seemed to shake off his “cold weather woes,” as he played spectacular against the Titans in freezing temperatures. Although the game will be competitive, I don’t think Russell Wilson will be able to score enough points. The Broncos will win 27-17.
Noah Baker: Denver
One of the best quarterbacks in the history of the game, Peyton Manning, is ready to face an upcoming sophomore, Russell Wilson, in Superbowl XLVIII. Though “Beastmode” (Marshawn Lynch) and the “Legion of Boom” (Seattle’s secondary) have been keeping the Seahawks as the NFL’s best, Peyton and the Broncos will come out on top in a 28-21 victory.
Jake Wasserman: Denver
There would be nothing I would want to see more than Peyton Manning get a second Super Bowl. He has revolutionized the game of football. To get a second ring would surely enforce the argument that he is the best quarterback of all-time, as other stars such as Tom Brady and Joe Montana have more than just one ring and can be said to have had a better career than Manning. I see this to be a low-scoring, close affair with the Seattle defense holding the Broncos offense in check up until the 4th quarter. I then see the Broncos’ running game take over with Knowshon Moreno and Montee Ball, as Peyton Manning won’t be able to close it out on his own. Final Score: Broncos 24- Seahawks 20.
