Every year, some of the best films are always released during wintertime. This year’s season, with upcoming dramas, comedies, science-fiction films, and more, is no exception. Here are just a few of the many upcoming films to watch out for:
Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Katniss, Peeta, and Gale return when the second installment of “The Hunger Games” trilogy hits theaters on November 22nd. Fresh off their win at the 74th Annual Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta on their victory tour start up the film. Things are not peaceful for long though, as rebellion is brewing in Panem.
Saving Mr. Banks
Oscar winner Tom Hanks stars as Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks, opening in theaters on December 13th. The movie tells the story of Walt Disney’s struggle to obtain the rights to “Mary Poppins” from its writer, P.L. Travers, who did not want her story to be ruined by Hollywood. The movie, which has already received wonderful reviews from critics, features an all-star cast including not only Hanks but also Emma Thompson and Paul Giamatti.
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug
Martin Freeman is back as Bilbo Baggins in the second film of the three part adaption of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. The first film in the trilogy, released in December of 2012, met middling reviews, as many critics thought it was too lengthy for its own good. However, fans of the first film are sure to enjoy the sequel, with it featuring the same cast and director as the first installment did.
August: Osage County
August: Osage County is a black comedy about a family that is forced to reunite due to a tragedy at their home in Oklahoma. The problem-ridden family members are all complex people who struggle to get along during their time together. The movie features an incredibly strong cast, with actors such as Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Abigail Breslin, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which will be released on Christmas day, features Ben Stiller as director and lead actor. Walter is a quiet man who cannot express what he feels, so he constantly retreats into the fantasy world he has created in his mind. The film, which flashes between Walter’s two worlds, stars acclaimed comedians Adam Scott and Kristen Wiig, and is sure to be a hit.
