Kimye Splits!
When it comes to relationships, Hollywood has a notorious reputation. Most Hollywood relationships fail due to immense publicity, travel for work, or simply because of the stress. Yet sometimes, relationships do work out. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, sometimes referred to by the ship name “Kimye”, are one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples. The model/businesswoman and renowned rapper are famous for their successful relationship and their four beautiful children.
In January 2021, Kim and Kanye announced their divorce to the public and fans of the relationship were shocked. This announcement received mixed messages, some supporting their divorce and some very against it. The Pine Crest community has had all sorts of responses as well. Rafael Opperman ‘23 was especially shocked by the news of the divorce.
He said, “I am very changed and I don’t know how my life is gonna go with knowing this information,” Opperman told the Paw Print.
For 7 years, Kim and Kanye lived happily in their house in Calabasas, California. Over the years, there have been some questionable moments about the true happiness shared in their marriage. In summer 2020, Kanye mocked Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, on Twitter by comparing her to North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un.
“When Kanye tweeted about Kris Jenner being ‘Kris Jong Un’, I was shocked,” said Annick Coleman ‘23. “I thought to myself, ‘are they happy with their marriage?’ and clearly they’re not.”
Kanye West has struggled with bipolar disorder for years, causing him to act in a rash manner multiple times in the past. In 2016, the rapper announced to the public that he would be running for president as a member of the birthday party, and he officially began his campaign in summer 2020. West also would often tweet erratically and post things he apologized for later.
Kim Kardashian has always been a supportive wife, and has spoken out to the public about mental health awareness. In September 2019, Kim Kardashian supported Kanye’s decision by allowing him to spend a few months at their ranch in Wyoming to take care of himself. Soon after he returned, the couple announced their divorce to the world.
Sources say that the couple will coparent in a professional manner. The two have discussed to multiple sources about how they understand the divorce may be a strain for their children, North, Chicago, Saint and Psalm, yet they strive to maintain a good relationship for the sake of co-parenting their kids.
