Florida Festival Season

As March comes to a close, festival-goers begin to prepare for music festivals around the country. In sunny South Florida, there is a wide range of music festivals for even the most particular music lovers. While there are music festivals throughout the year, spring and summer hold the promise of listening to some of the most renowned artists. Festivals such as Ultra, Tortuga, and Sunfest are among the most popular of these exciting music events.

Ultra music festival, renowned for its techno music and EDM, took place from March 29th to March 31st. Artists such as Adam Beyer and Richie Hawtin headlined this festival along with a variety of other artists and DJs. Ultra took place on Virginia Key Beach Park and partnered with local environmental organizations such as Debris Free Oceans and Surfrider Foundation in order to ensure that the beach is kept clean. While this festival was more expensive than other festivals in South Florida, it was an exciting experience for all who attended.

Tortuga Music Festival is a country music lover’s dream come true. Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, and Flo Rida will be performing at this year’s festival, among other talented artists. Music enthusiasts can attend this festival when from April 12th to April 14th on Fort Lauderdale beach. A new addition to Tortuga this year is the introduction of the first annual Rock the Ocean Sea Turtle Derby Sweepstakes. The winner will receive a pair of 3-day general admission passes and two backstage passes to meet Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, and Thomas Rhett. Another important aspect of this festival is its support for marine life conservation. Tortuga has donated over one million dollars to marine life charities. Tortuga is certainly a lively country music festival that many people are looking forward to.

Junior Liz Buehl said, “I’m so excited to enjoy music with my friends at Tortuga. I love the lineup this year and I think it will be a great experience.”

SunFest is another exciting music festival featuring pop and rap music. This festival promises a setlist of well-known artists on the sunny waterfront of West Palm Beach. From May 2nd to May 5th, this festival is one of the more affordable music festival options this season. A full four-day pass costs 94 dollars, while many other popular music festivals can cost up to 500 dollars. Another thing that makes this festival unique is its waterfront location. One of the few of its kind, SunFest promises beautiful weather and sandy beaches. Bebe Rexha and OneRepublic, along with many other talented artists, will be performing at SunFest this year. SunFest will be a great way for Pine Crest students to take a break from studying for finals, and it is sure to be an exciting event for everyone who attends.

Sophomore Sam Salem said, “The lineup for SunFest this year is amazing. It seems like such a great time and I am hoping I can go.”

Whether it’s EDM or country music, there are festivals for all South Florida music lovers this season. Ultra, Tortuga, and Sunfest are unique festivals that should be an exhilarating experience for anyone who attends.
