With Halloween approaching, deciding on the perfect costume is on everyone’s mind. Putting together an original and creative costume can be quite a challenge. Below are some great DIY costume ideas to inspire your Halloween ensemble.

1. Go totally tubular!

Dress up in retro attire from the 80’s!  There are many tops you can use to create this outfit. You can start with a bright, oversized sweatshirt or an off the shoulder crop top layered over a tank top. For bottoms, you have an array of options. You can go with neon colored shorts, leggings, or jeans for an 80’s look. The 80s were out of this world, and so were their accessories. Don’t forget to top off your costume with scrunchies, leg warmers, and big earrings to make your costume even cuter.

2. Saddle up for Halloween!

Another DIY costume you can find in your closet is a cowboy or cowgirl ensemble. A plaid shirt, blue jeans, and a big belt create the basic look. If you have boots, a bandanna, or a cowboy hat, this will definitely vamp up the outfit.

3. Why eat treats when you can be one?

If you want to try something more creative, try this simple jelly bean costume. Inflate multicolored balloons and fill a clear garbage bag half way up with them. Cut holes for your head, arms, and legs, and enjoy your one-of-a-kind costume!

4. There’s nothing better than a tacky Florida tourist.

Dressing as a “tacky tourist” is always a winning look. The base of this costume is a simple Hawaiian shirt and shorts. An “I Heart NY” shirt also works. You can also go with the classic “bikini body” shirt, which is sold on any boardwalk or beach clothing store. There are a number of great accessories to add to this costume, and you’ll be sure to find at least one or two around your house. These include straw hats, bucket hats, visors, sunglasses, leis, binoculars, cameras, and fanny packs. Don’t forget to dab some zinc on your nose!

5. Trying to plan a group costume?

A super fun, yet simple idea is to dress as the rainbow. You and a group of friends can each get decked out in a different color by using a single color dress, shirt, tutu, shorts, and/or pants. You can also add as many fun accessories you would like. If you have a large enough group, you can always add clouds at either end by dressing in all white and adding cotton balls to your choice clothing piece.

6. Going for scarier?

Dress as a robber. Pair black and white striped shirt with black bottoms and a beanie. Use a pillowcase filled with something light, or even your halloween candy, as your bag of loot. Print or draw a dollar sign on the bag. If you own black gloves that you no longer need, cut the tips of the fingers off for fingerless gloves to finish off the look.
