A Run-Through of the Runway
New York Fashion Week is something that fashion fanatics and high society alike look forward to every year. The jam packed event took place from September 7 to September 13, 2017. The two of the designers that everyone had their eye on were Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Ralph Lauren took his guests on a car themed experience at his home in Bedford, NY that houses his incredible car collection. After guests took a quick tour around the cars, the show began and the models came out. Lauren clothed both men and women in automobile-themed fashions taking inspiration from the metallic sheen of cars and different car designs. Meanwhile, the Calvin Klein show blended the quintessential American dream with American horror. Raf Simons, the creative director, was inspired by the Hollywood films that depict these opposing themes. Some main components of the collection were cowboy-inspired clothing items and simple lace dresses.
The fashion show venues were not the only things making a mark on fashion week, as the models took their fair share of publicity. Of course all the usuals were spotted out on the runway, like sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, who helped each other out during an unfortunate mishap of Gigi’s at the Anna Sui show. But there was a newcomer, as well: 16 year old Kaia Gerber who walked the runways of many major fashion houses. Though she may be new to the runway, she is certainly not a new face in fashion, as she has starred in various fashion campaigns, while being the daughter of model Rande Gerber and supermodel Cindy Crawford. The young model walked in big shows like Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, and Alexander Wang, making her mark on the runway.
From models creating buzz to runways creating an immersive experience, this New York fashion week was all about innovation and looking to the future. New York Fashion Week never disappoints and this year was no exception. It is something that always sets the trend for the upcoming Fall/Winter season and an event to look forward to each season.
