As temperatures begin to drop in many parts of the country, certain attire is required to beat the low temperatures.  While the prospect of shifting to a warmer wardrobe may be daunting for most, it is one of the most anticipated parts of the year for the fashion community. After the plethora of trend-setting September issues of fashion magazines arrive on doorsteps and in newsstands, it is up to the consumers to decide what pieces to purchase and trends to follow. Of course, the array of choices always includes boots and coats, but designs vary from year to year, as new trends emerge and others are brought back. A 90s grunge clunky boot and long sleeved coats have become this year’s “it pieces” and fall/winter must haves.

As seen on the runways of New York Fashion Week, this year’s autumn clothing is heavily 70s inspired. From fur to fringe, the carefree days of fashion have made a comeback. Fur has always been an extremely popular winter trend, and this year the fashion industry has made the essential into a comfy and warm accessory. Arguably, the most well known take on fur this season are Gucci‘s fur slippers and fur sleeves.

On a more modern note, structured grey suits have been spotted in Max Mara’s, Theory’s, and Giorgio Armani’s fall collections. High wasted pants have also been a focal point of newer designers such as Jason Wu and Isabel Marant, as well as the feature of more classic brand names like Versace and Givenchy.

There has also been an appearance of more mature, lady-like, and sophisticated accessories: oversized jewelry spotted at Balenciaga, Prada, Holly Fulton and Miu Miu, loafer kitten heels at the shows of Chanel, Prada, Miu Miu, and Stella McCartney, and over the elbow gloves seen at Lanvin, Prada, and Elie Saab.

And what would fall be without a gorgeous skirt to pair under a structured coat? Fashion’s ever-evolving take on skirts has translated into this season’s deeply slitted pleat style, or as some have deemed it, car wash pleats. Dior has certainly used this new type of skirt to their advantage, making for a modern twist on a retro classic at Paris Fashion Week.  Mid-calf skirts have also been a chic highlight of this year’s trend calendar. In addition, for those who live in warmer climates like us Floridians, or for those who are willing to brave the cold, Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel, Saint Laurent, Miu Miu, and Louis Vuitton have brought back the mini skirt.

All in all, fall fashion 2015 did not disappoint! From modern to old school to vintage inspired pieces, designers have put out show stopping collections that will help you fashionably brave the winter temperatures. Happy shopping!
