Do you like the PC Lunch?
School lunch has always been a figure of controversy among schools across the nation. With obesity levels at an all-time high in certain areas of the country, the USDA recently approved a new lunch menu that has been already been put into effect nationwide.
While the PC school lunch menu is definitely not in jeopardy of being changed due to health risks, some students have displayed their dislike of the PC lunch, and it makes sense, too. PC students are a bit spoiled from their loving parent’s “nutritious” meals of burgers, fries, and high quality restaurant pizza at home plus the variety of restaurants, from ethnic to fast food. Therefore, Pine Crest’s lunch cannot really compete against these high standards.
However, for a school lunch, it’s still pretty good. After interviewing a couple of upper school students about their opinion, I was surprised to find that they do appreciate the cafeteria crew’s job of serving lunch every day for nearly 1,000 people. Pine Crest lunch favorites include crispitos, (just don’t look at it when eating) chicken tenders, taco day, and pizza Fridays. Our school does stand up to the high quality meals commonly consumed by PC students, or they understand that they just can’t complain.
“PC lunch makes my old school’s lunch look like cat food,” says Nicholas Becker, now in his second year at PC. “I just wish the cafeteria had more lunch lines, so I wouldn’t have to wait all day to get it!”
“I miss having a different hot meal everyday…my packed lunches are always cold, and I have to eat walking from class to class,” says Julia Sabra, a sophomore with no lunch period because of her schedule with three electives classes. “The number of options and variety of food available at lunch always made sure I had something to eat.”
Another student with no lunch period, Alan Koolik says that while he doesn’t particularly miss the PC lunch, he misses the time in between classes to catch his breath. “It can be very tiring going from class to class throughout the day without a break….I didn’t particularly dislike the cafeteria food last year, it was quite good compared to other school’s dining services. But, I prefer my packed lunch this year because I can tailor it to my own needs.”
Offering over 20 different menu options, PC lunch is simply one of a kind and outstanding in light of being a school cafeteria. What’s your opinion of the PC lunch? Let us know.
