Hopefully you caught Brandon Knight in the Skills Challenge event on February 14th at the Barclays Center during the NBA’s all-star weekend. Or maybe you heard about him through the three-team blockbuster trade between the Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, and Philadelphia 76ers on February 19th . Unfortunately, during the Suns game against the Golden State Warriors on March 9th, Knight came down with all of his weight on his ankle and rolled it badly. He was out on crutches for a few days and still has yet to play a game since.
And, he will not be playing an NBA game ever again.
Yes, you read that correctly. Brandon Knight is finished with the NBA.
and…
He announced he is coming back to coach basketball at his former high school, Pine Crest School, in South Florida!
I interviewed Brandon Knight to see what he had to say about this huge decision. When asked why he decided to leave the NBA and come back to Pine Crest, he said, “It has always been my life dream to coach basketball. And how could I not coach back at Pine Crest? Nothing is as thrilling as the environment in Stacy Gym. I have to bring another state championship home.”
Knight will be rocking the green and white again, as he has been named new Head Coach of the Panthers. The expectations are high for this new team to perform well, and it’s only March! Since the day Knight’s announcement was made, Pine Crest has been swarmed by news reporters on campus. Without a doubt, the 2015-2016 basketball team will have a national spotlight on them next season.
But it gets better.
Brandon Knight is also donating a hockey arena and indoor swimming facility to the campus. The Administration at Pine Crest are developing and creating the new plans for expanding the campus to incorporate these additions. It will be built over the summertime, ready for the 2015-16 school year. Brandon Knight said, “When I was in highschool, I always wanted a hockey team at school that we could all cheer for. I think school spirit will be soaring out the window!” Pine Crest students cannot wait to have a hockey team that will allow them to practice at school, along with an amazing new indoor swimming facility.
Brandon Knight said he also has some exciting plans for the PC Panthers basketball team. “I’m not going to disclose any information yet, but I’ll be meeting with the team in a few weeks, and can’t wait to be back in South Florida. Go Panthers!”
The students, faculty, and parents of Pine Crest School are very happy to welcome Brandon Knight back home!
