The red carpet is just like a fashion show, designer dresses and gorgeous shoes galore, especially at this year’s Golden Globes this past January 11th. A-list celebrities like Emma Stone and Kate Hudson dressed to impress to start the award season off on the right foot. The pressure is on to make that first look one to remember. After hours of preparation, from choosing the perfect dress to hair and makeup, these stars came out swinging, ready to show off their designer gown choices. This star-studded event was filled with some fabulous dresses but some just didn’t hit the mark. Here’s the rundown of who looked hot and who… not so much.
The absolute best dressed of the night, landing on best-dressed lists galore, was Kate Hudson. The gorgeous model slayed in a white, low cut and crystal-embellished Versace gown. Her choice of simplistic makeup and pulled back hair really helped for her positive and playful personality to shine through. The Fabletics designer finished off her look with a pair of stunning Forevermark earrings. Giuliana Rancic of E! News even said, “Thank you we bow down to you. Just gorgeous!”
Another star that never ceases to impress us with her impeccable fashion choices is Emma Stone. The Birdman Supporting Actress nominee dawned a bedazzled Lanvin jumpsuit with a large bow, making the ensemble a daring red carpet choice. Emma’s bubbly personality sparkled along with her jumpsuit, telling Ryan Seacrest, “I thought it would go off in the metal detector!” The Cabaret starlet finished off her look with simple but timeless makeup and bright red lipstick to make this fashion risk a total success! Brad Goreski even told his Fashion Police cast mates, “The look was so great! I wish I had styled it myself.”
The belle of the ball, the infamous bachelor tamer, Amal Alamuddin, was another best-dressed at this year’s Golden Globes. She walked the carpet arm-in-arm with her new husband George Clooney, who was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award Lifetime Achievement Award. The human rights activist wowed in a black, one shoulder Dior Haute Couture gown. On another note, Amal and George both wore “Je Suis Charlie” buttons, supporting the antiterrorist marches in France. To finish off her look, Mrs. Clooney dawned white elbow length gloves. Clooney told Ryan Seacrest, “She’s very handy. She sewed them this morning!”
The absolute worst dressed of the night has to be Lana Del Ray. The “Young and Beautiful” singer really missed the mark with her vintage, teal blue dress. Kelly Osbourne said, “This is a hot mess from head to toe.” Not only was the dress ill fitting and outdated, but her 80’s poof hairstyle didn’t really make things much better. “This was just all kinds of bad. This summertime sadness all over the place,” Brad Goreski tells his fashion police cast mates.
Another fashion faux paux of the night was Lupita Nyong’o. The 12 Years A Slave actress usually wows on the red carpet, especially since her infamous red Ralph Lauren Golden Globes dress was a favorite from last year, but this time she really failed to impress. She wore a purple and white flower printed strapless dress by Giambattista Valli Couture, looking like a walking bouquet. Her look was definitely not the worst of the night, but was definelty not up to her regular standards.
Although extremely funny, Tina Fey failed to impress us with her red carpet look. The 30 Rock actress dawned a custom Antonio Berardi white tea-length gown. The dress was extremely structured in the hip area, which happened to be a red carpet trend, but was just too harsh for her small figure. Some even described it as a sparkly paper bag with feet. Her red carpet style sadly just wasn’t up to par with her witty humor and incredible hosting skills.
Although this award show was one to remember, there were two very important missing faces: Oscar de la Renta and Joan Rivers. This was the first major award show without these two fashion and red carpet moguls. We especially missed Joan’s red carpet zings and Oscars incredible design skills.
