The traffic is awful, but the art is awesome during Art Basel in Miami. From December 4-7, the Miami Beach Convention Center booms with copious amounts of unique art from the most talented artists from all around the world. In addition to the hundreds of exhibitors, Art Basel Week is filled with films, parties, concerts, and other art-related events. Art Basel is fast-paced and sometimes dizzying, since there is so much to see. Craig Robins, CEO and President of Dacra, recalls,
[blockquote style=”1″]“It’s the most important cultural weekend, maybe in the country. The Art Basel Fair and Art Basel Miami has transformed into this amazing series of cultural events to coincide with the art fair and so everyone’s in town and it’s a perfect moment to display it.”[/blockquote]
Art Basel Week is full of glitz, glamour, and shiny things. People who attend the art fair search for the well-known artists as well as international artists that are breaking into the scene. Art Basel attracts a wide range of people, which is why it is such a successful, international festival. Art Basel appeals to the art connoisseurs, the celebrities, and the crowd that just desires some December sun.

The glamorous parties are a huge part of Art Basel Week. Designers, such as Louis Vuitton, host dinners, brunches, and galas with other renowned fashion designers or people in the industry. Stars like Miranda Kerr, Kate Hudson, and Michelle Williams attended Louis Vuitton’s Playing With Shapes private dinner at the Bacardi Jewel Box. Paris Hilton made several appearances throughout the week as well. Not only did she perform at LIV Nightclub at the Fontainebleau Hotel, but she also DJ-ed at the Jeremy Scott and Moschino Barbie Party. Miley Cyrus put on a wild performance at the Raleigh Hotel for one of the opening parties. Other celebrities who attended star-studded events during Art Basel are Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Bella Hadid, and many more.

Pine Crest’s Art History and art classes experienced the Art Basel madness this past Friday. The group, headed by Mrs. Ledbetter and Mrs. Smith, spent the day walking through and admiring art in Design Miami and Art Basel in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Students were able to observe the various styles and art techniques that they have grasped in the classroom. Mrs. Ledbetter loves bringing her students to Art Basel each year because she believes it is incredibly important for students to examine art not only in their textbooks, but also in the real world. Pine Crest students enjoyed viewing all of the fascinating art collections and taking numerous pictures of the extraordinary art. Art Basel proves to excite people of all ages and ethnicities and continues to spread culture and ideas in the bustling city of Miami.
