Pine Crest Debate Team Excels in Michigan

From November 8th to November 10th, 2024, the Pine Crest Debate Team traveled to Detroit, Michigan, to compete in a prestigious tournament. The team demonstrated remarkable skills, with debaters Geng Gao ’28 and Neil Rai ’28 achieving an impressive 6-2 record. This performance qualified them for the semi-finals, though they were unable to compete further due to timing and scheduling conflicts.

Throughout the tournament, participants tackled a range of challenging topics. John Castle ’28 shared, “My favorite topic to debate was AI PERA because it explores international relations and the economic sustainability of artificial intelligence.”

Despite the rigorous competition, the Debate Team also had the chance to relax and enjoy the city’s attractions. They explored local landmarks, sampled Detroit’s cuisine, and experienced the city’s vibrant nightlife. “The award dinner in the city was my favorite part of the trip,” said Geng Gao ’28.

The Debate Team’s journey to Michigan was an unforgettable experience, marked by achievements in the Michigan University classrooms and cherished memories made along the way.
