The Golden Globes is just one of the many exciting awards shows held at the beginning of the year.

After the start of each new year, millions tune in to watch as performers are honored for their achievements. This year, the Golden Globe Awards took place on January 6th in Beverly Hills, California, and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards was hosted on January 27th in Los Angeles, California. Both highly exclusive events are perfect locations for celebrity sightings. Each year, fans gather around their televisions to marvel at the celebrities’ unique outfits.

This year’s Golden Globe fashion left audiences in awe. Mother of two and owner of a plus-sized clothing brand, Melissa McCarthy, was nominated for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.” She caught attention in a vibrant eggplant-colored dress with embroidered stars at the collar. Although she did not win the award, she spread the importance of recognizing the beauty in women of all body types. Lady Gaga surprised audiences, as per usual, with a Tiffany blue gown by Valentino and turquoise hair to match. Gaga’s outfit was not the only thing that caught the attention of the press. She took home the “Best Original Song” award for “Shallow,” the hit that combines country and folk-pop styles from the Oscar-nominated movie A Star is Born. Nicole Kidman walked the red carpet in an elegant deep red gown that matched her red shoes. Her tasteful look incorporated the iconic shoes with an unconventional handbag in the shape of a disco ball. The 2019 Golden Globe Awards left the world with a golden example of cutting edge fashion.

The 2019 SAG Awards fashion was especially novel, as this year, the red carpet was exchanged for a silver carpet to honor the 25th anniversary of the award show. One trend seen at this event was gowns with a high slit. Lady Gaga and Amy Adams were among the trendy stars sporting this edgy accent. Gaga’s Dior dress had a low v-neck cut and was embellished with lace accents. In contrast, Adams’ black dress had a straight ruffled top with metallic detailing and a large ruffle around the waist. Emily Blunt, the winner of the “Outstanding Performance by Female Actor in a Supporting Role” award, also decided to go with a ruffled look. She attended the SAG Awards adorned in a bright pink sparkly gown with ruffled sleeves, which most definitely made a statement. Emma Stone uniquely wore a pantsuit and walked the silver carpet in black high-waisted pants and a golden one-sleeved blouse. Her classy yet progressive look caught the attention of the press and the fans. Shakira Barrera shocked audiences in her seemingly ordinary white gown. When Barrera spread her arms, her ordinary gown turned into a Nicaraguan flag. Not only did she make a bold fashion statement, but she also honored her country. The silver carpet set the stage for many out-of-the-ordinary looks. Celebrities went out of their comfort zones, debuting fashionable shades of red, pink, and metallics, which were all complimented by the silver carpet. Both the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards were nights to remember and proved to be an amazing kick-off to the 2019 award show season.
